If you could pick one character in a book, movie or television show to swap places with, who would it be?

I think I've answered this question in a different form, but basically I don't think I'd really want to swap places. I'm pretty happy with the way my life is. Sure, I often don't get along with my parents, and there are days I wish that I could just read all day. Granted, I'm not sure there's a hero/heroine out there that just reads all day anyway heh~~

Welcome from Book Blog Hop hosted by Crazy for Books and Follow Friday hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?

I kind of wish I could get into classics, but I always find something newer and shinier to read whenever I think about it. Sometimes it makes me feel less well read because I haven't read the classics. It's ok though, I have lots of fun with my SFF books ^.^

Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?

John Scalzi who is the author of Old Man's War is someone I would absolutely love to sit down with because he's just generally entertaining although his books are awesome too, but I don't have too many questions about the books beyond when are there going to be more.

Patrick Rothfuss, he's like a big huggable teddy bear, and it would be great to have discussion with him

I would also love to talk to Jacqueline Carey because her books are just so wonderful.

How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) Pile?

Erm... I'm scared to count how many are actually on my TBR pile at this point. I think I may have a heart attack if I did... so I just pretend it's a lot smaller (say maybe 65 books), and I am happy in my ignorant bliss of how many there actually probably are heh~~

Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

Fantasy! Yes, that's a pretty broad category, but I read all over this spectrum of books so I think I'll stick with the bigger one ^.^ While I also read science-fiction, the ratio is 3:1 in favor or fantasy in general although the recent spate of dystopian/post apocalyptic/utopian books has tipped that balance somewhat.

I think the book that brought me to this genre was Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce back maybe 11-12 years ago. (I did review it I went back and re-read it recently) Wild Magic was instant love, and I have never looked back. I think you should read that book too ^.^

The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says "you and your favorite character (from a book of course) can switch places!" Who are you going to switch with?

I actually don't really want to switch lives with with any of my favorite characters. Most of the things they face are probably too traumatic for me o_0.

It might be fun to be a Princess Substitute like Desi from Princess for Hire and The Royal Treatment because that book has the really fun and bubbly kind of magic. There's also meeting royals which might be interesting in a fairy tale kind of way although of course royals are just people too. The only caveat though is that I'm not sure I want to go through my teen years again.

Granted, Desi's teen years will probably be less emotionally exhausting even with having to be a royal substitute and learn things in order to be a substitute so it might not be too bad ^.^

Question to Come!

Do you have anyone that you can discuss books with IRL? Tell us about him/her.

I have a few people that I can discuss books with IRL so I guess I am kind of lucky in that respect although most of them don't chew through as many books as I do so it's hard to get recommendations heh~~

I've got one friend who I will read anything on recommendation on the fact that she's never given a bad recommendation so I guess it's no surprise that our compatibility rating on goodreads is like 75%.

Another friend I spend a lot of time working out things on bookswap with since we both love owning books and well sending our books off to other people. ^.^ She'sn also great for discussing a lot of YA books although she tends to be much more lenient with them than I am.

I've got a friend who is great for epic fantasy and then there's one friend who I don't see very often, but whenever I see her, we talk about nothing but books which makes the BF start to space out after awhile since he likes books but not quite to the same level as this friend and I.

Basically, I'm blessed to have so many friends who love books ^.^

Question to come~~

DO YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER?

Yes, mostly to pick out the genre right away and for books where I'm not familiar with the author (most books). Authors I already like, they can have less awesome covers and I'll still buy the book

"Since today is April Fool's Day in the USA, what is the best prank you have ever played on someone OR that someone has played on you?"

Erm... I haven't really ever done April Fool's day... I think I might have got someone to open a door which had a small cup of water that hit them when they opened it one. That's about it for an actual April Fool's day prank.

In college one of my friends went home early for winter vacation, and his roomie let me strip my friend's side of the room bare of stuff and put it in his closet. Course then I got back late from winter vacation, and my friend proceeded to retaliate by turning everything in my room literally upside down. He even taped electrical cords to the ceiling.

If you could physically put yourself into a book or series…which one would it be and why?

Some opulent series maybe? I dunno too spacey to think.

Be sure to Enter the Giveaway for TWO Kindles

GIVE US FIVE BOOK RELATED SILLY FACTS ABOUT YOU.

1. I can't bear to have cracks in the spines of my books so I only crack open the books I read as far as I need to read them.
2. I used to read a lot of trashy romance and hid them in the third row of my books.
3. I like to arrange my books by book height rather than something people can logically follow... I promise myself that someday when I have more space, I will organize properly.
4. Depending on whether I started a series when it first came out or later on I have to buy the same binding because I like having the same look for all the books in a series. I will go out of my way to collect the same cover art type in a series too.
5. 1 More to come!

Who's your all-time favorite book villain?

I'm not sure I'm supposed to like book villains although I kind of like the villain from Kushiel's Dart (go figure that I like the villain in my favorite book, but I can't tell you who it is because that would ruin some of the surprises in the book I think....). The villain was crafty though and evil while still being understandable, and oh so much fun to read o_0

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!

What are you reading now and why are you reading it?

I'm reading Life as We Knew It right now because a friend recommended it months ago, and I'm finally getting around to reading it. I'm really bad at reading recommended books (from people I trust) right away, but eventually I do read them heh~~

Loving the Reviews Challenge (and giveaway event extravaganza) has started! There are going to be a ton of authors giving away stuff and all you have to do is what you all normally do - review books! Check out the details and sign up and link up! We just added Lily of the Nile by Stephanie Dray (our guest poster tomorrow) to our prize pool ^.^

Krista D. Ball wrote an excellent post about loving a child as part of the Loving the Reviews Challenge yesterday ^.^

I only had 1 review this past week because of tests and such which was Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

What book are you currently pushing?

You mean other people only push 1 book at a time?! Ha! HA! It really depends on what the person I'm pushing books on has read... but I push

The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett
Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey
Old Man's War by John Scalzi
Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Unwind by Neal Shusterman
Soulless by Gail Carriger

I'm sure there are more that I push heh....

What is/was your favorite subject in school?

Erm, I enjoyed certain classes rather than whole subjects.. like Chemistry, Business Law, European History, Buddhist Psychology, Social Psychology~~ Whether I liked a class really depended on whether I liked the teacher so I ended up with an eclectic mix of classes which I enjoyed.

State of Mind by Sven Michael Davison
Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Why do you read the genre that you do? What draws you to it?

Incidentally, I had a post up this week about other genres you might read! You can read it here (you should vote too!).

I read fantasy and sci-fi (all subgenres) because I read to escape. It's hard to escape if what you are reading is here essentially. I also think it's really hard to build an alternate world, and that those writers who do it successfully are just that much better. In addition, the fantasy and sci-fi writers are often huge nerds so it's really fun to read their blogs as well!

What are your plans for the Christmas holiday?

Eating lots and lots of food. Then sharing lots of presents, which are under the lovely tree. (I had tons of fun wrapping a lot of them as I mentioned last week heh)

Last year was the first year ever that I celebrated a real American style Christmas with a tree, presents, and a lively party of people. I'm still pretty excited about it this year, and will likely to be for years to come. The boyfriend thinks I'm like a little kid, and in some ways, it's definitely like being a little kid at Christmas because I've hardly done it before. This year there are even stockings!! (Can you tell I'm super excited? ^.^)

I hope y'all are celebrating in some fun way~~ For those of you that regularly have a big hoopla, does Christmas get less exciting because you've done it many times before?

What do you consider the most important in a story: the plot or the characters?

How can you choose the plot supports the characters and the characters support the plot o_0 I suppose if I absolutely had to choose I would choose the characters because I often remember more about them than the actual plot.

What did you study in college, or are currently studying?

I'm slightly amused by this question because I mentioned what I was going to study in my Third Sentence Thursday post. I studied psychology for undergrad, but I'm switching over to Computer Science for grad school. Programming is just more fun, and well a lot more practical in the job market ^.^

Be sure to come back Saturday and Sunday for a review of Harvest Moon and the interview with the Author: Krista D. Ball!
